The Butchery

Fragrant nymph gleaming
Comrades coaxed,
Striving

A wrenching daughter
Diplomatic maids and wicked spirit
Their cunning captain
 Hatred, an unearthly blaze

What a wretched death she is doomed to die
a bloody noose
The floor awash with blood
Blanching white pain
Pity

Western Interactions: Asia Reflection

Over India, China, and Japan I think India had the best relations with the west although britain took 2/3 of India over they treated them much better than Japan or China. Japan An China were bombarded over time by the west especially small Japan during their first interactions with the west and during their strive for power over the rest of Asia. When India was taken over there were princes they fought and rebellions they exterminated but they also increased sanitation and their education system for the middle class. Britain treated indian religion with respect and enforced it with law although some would have thought their religion barbaric. In China their was refusal by traders and they stopped Kow-Towing to the chinese which caused outrage and in Japan most western powers forced unequal treaties demeaning the japanese. In 1947 Britain gave them freedom after war but other Asian counties were seen as enemy. So, although many may have been killed in massacres and rebellions I believe that they were treated much better under british power than Japan and China which were left devastated at points due to western influence.

Mi Viaje a Chile

Rocket Report on Class Project

Baylis Mitchell working by himself on the rocket project in Andy Lammers science class of 2017 pushing through a struggle at the last minute. He has yet to come up with an ingenious rocket but he soon able to find success getting the second best time in his class showing up all others in the last six minutes of the last class to test his rocket. Pumping the rocket by himself and rushing to the string to let loose all its power letting it soar up into the sky. As it flies up the capsule comes off at its peak and the parachute rolls out of the cone but is not open. beginning to free-fall towards earth again panic arises amongst the students for it was his last egg. But the reliable rocket proudly opens up its parachute and a smile spreads across Baylis as his egg lands safely on the ground with a time of 11.29 seconds. Success has been found at the last minute and Baylis is saved soaring from a C to an A. An astounded Baylis says "I can't believe it worked, I guess I just got lucky". It is another great day for Baylis and a wonderful one for bottle ballistics.

Hiroshima Debate Reflection

In my debate I was for debate 1 and I needed to make the audience believe that the bombing of Hiroshima was horrible and the men who carried out the plan should have been tried and hung in court. Our main points were that Hiroshima was already devastated and it wasn't necessary for the US to drop the bomb. That America had already demonized the japanese through propagandas making the americans think lesser of the japanese making it easy for them to kill thousands. Lastly that even those who created the bomb voted against the use of the bomb and only they knew that it would be a horrible decision that would ruin the already greatly wounded Japan.

Honestly I didn't do very well on this project, I zoned out whenever it was time to work and never actually physically contributed that much data or effort. I would just help them verbally telling them to occasionally correct something or maybe add onto a question or onto a statement. In the actual debate though I feel like I did a little bit better. I talked a fair share but non of it was very convincing and I often got tongue tied or brain dead. I think if I had not been rushed to spit out an answer I could have had more educated and correct answers than my sloppy ones. I think our opening and closing statements were done well only because they were prepared but we were horrible at coming up with answers and were unprepared to answer the well prepared team that we debated with. One thing that I did try to contribute was a response sheet and no one would help me with that so it never got serious and that would have helped a lot. So all in all it was my fault that I didn't do anything and I think I could have made it better if I had tried.

I learned that really it was one of the toughest wars in history and it was impossible to make the right decision. If I had been Truman I would have done the same thing, you can't make everyone happy so make your happy. The US was a little ambitious and cocky with their power and they may have been crude and evil but ti worked and thats what matters to me. Maybe the bomb could have been substituted but it was a war and it was time to end it.

This debate helped me practice my public speaking skills and having everything ready which I failed at and shows that I have a lot of work to do on both skills and that I should always try my hardest. I would have loved to be on the other side and that may have been why I wasn't working so hard because I think the bomb should have been dropped. I have always been a little patriotic and followed " the bigger the better" but learning about the horror caused it has made me a little less sure about it but I think everything they did was a good idea and that it happened and I shouldn't worry about but respect it and be educated correctly.

Rocket Reflection

So far I think my rocket has been going pretty well and considering that I have been working by myself I am right by all the other groups in progression. My deployment system is starting to work and my rocket goes extremely high but my parachute needs to be remade so I can have a longer flight. I hope to soon test a real egg after I get some more practice tests and I want  to spend most of the rest of the project on the field launching eggs. But, when I am making repairs I need to take a little more time so the rocket is ready for many tests and not just "enough". I think my design is individual but I have put my own twist on it with a combination of things I have seen from many other students.

Mid-Trimester Blog Reflection

So far I think my goals have been going well and that they have been pretty easy so far. My essays quality has increased greatly and I have been getting better grades. Over spring break I took a lot of pictures and that was good but with the rain and clouds of winter and spring it has been hard for me to find good pictures in my time-frame. With the extremely big rocket project going on it has been essential for me to have a really nice performing rocket and after a few prototypes my rocket has gotten pretty good. So I think I should just do what I've been doing with a little extra planning and effort and I'll be fine.

My Research Paper Topic and Why

My narrowed down topic is going to be the creation and use of gas weaponry during war. I think this will be a good topic for me because the main use of gas weaponry was used in the world wars which interests me and I already know a lot about the world wars so it she be an easier yet thorough topic for me.

Mission Statement

As I come out of college I think the major decisions in my life will have to be made and it is important to know what they will be. I have not thought very far ahead in what I am going to be doing but there are a few guidelines that I want to follow. As I go into a world of work and real life I want to be seen as someone who is reliable and can work efficiently and be on time. I want to have done many fun and educational things before I graduate college so I can have plenty of skills so I can help others when they need it and always let my life be open to others when in need. I hope that I would have been able to stay with my parents where I am living now so I can keep up the small and slowly growing farm we have so I can maybe learn financial skills and good work ethics to take care of living animals and selling the products we produce. Although living so far away I want to have lots of friends so I want to also be thought of as very sociable. I always want to be known for the fact that I can support myself but that I can also be a good friend who wants to help and always can because Helping others usually in turn ends up helping yourself.

I have never really found myself admiring one certain person or group but certain types of people that I identify others as. I respect those who realize what kind of impact they are making on the world and they change their life style to support themselves and become successful and help others to change to. I like people who are smarter than I am who have created wonderful things with wonderful work ethics to learn from so everyone can learn easily. People who have created businesses that change the world or just kids who are clever. But the best types are those who just like to have a good time no matter what the situation and can set me in a good mood to relieve a hard days stress. This is why in the future I hope to have learned good ethics to keep my career at its best and to be able to support a family of any size with plenty of animals. I need good social skills so I can have lots of friends especially those who can let me have fun and relieve stress and be free but not go too far. Last of all I need to realize how I impact others and the world so I can be smart and live safely so I can have free time to pursue activities that interest me for the rest of my life.

If the World was Crazy

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd eat?
A big slice of soup and a whole quart of meat,
A lemonade sandwich, and then I might try
Some roasted ice cream or a bicycle pie,
A nice notebook salad, an underwear roast,
An omelet of hats and some crisp cardboard toast,
A thick malted milk made from pencils and daisies,
And that's what I'd eat if the world was crazy.

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd wear?
A chocolate suit and a tie of eclair,
Some marshmallow earmuffs, some licorice shoes,
And I'd read a paper of peppermint news.
I'd call the boys "Suzy" and I'd call the girls "Harry,"
I'd talk through my ears, and I always would carry
A paper umbrella for when it grew hazy
To keep in the rain, if the world was crazy.

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd do?
I'd walk on the ocean and swim in my shoe,
I'd fly through the ground and I'd skip through the air,
I'd run down the bathtub and bathe on the stair.
When I met somebody I'd say "G'bye, Joe,"
And when I was leaving--then I'd say "Hello."
And the greatest of men would be silly and lazy
So I would be king...if the world was crazy.

Poem I Like Reflection

In Shel Silverstein's poem If The World was Crazy he provided wonderful and childish imagery. He has always had an influence on me and I liked this poem because it had a little bit of everything I had been learning. He threw in occasional alliteration into his lines and had a small end of line refrain with the beginning always changing. He has always wrote strange and different poems each time and has inspired me to write anything I want too.

Poetry Unit Refection

1. What did you learn about poetry this unit? How?

I learned that some new poetry vocabulary that has helped me bring in new properties in my writing. Things like alliteration and refrain were some things I wasn't familiar with. Alliteration has helped me create most of my sound effects in this unit. I learned these words by filling in the rubric I was given to help me learn new properties in poetry. Also from the poems we like handout viewing great poets work  made me think about how I write. I think this made me add more imagery in it so I could sound a little bit more like poetry I have read. Exploring other writers work has always changed my methods to learn new tricks to make clever poems.

2.Where did you get your ideas for your poems?

Most of the time my ideas are from things going on in the world because I listen to the news on the radio a lot. I wrote about elephants escaping a cage because my family has always thought against animal captivity and I thought it was worth something to write about and it seemed like there were lots of things to learn about what goes on other than what is seen on stage. I also like to look into the near past and future and see what is going on then and I thought about some recent camping trips I went on with my dad seeing lots of running streams and stopping by them to eat and sometimes seeing pollution in the streams and a good amount of sad poisoned death. My first poem was about a project in art that I saw from another class of paper snowflakes with the sun streaming through the holes of the cut paper. I just like to write about things I hear an see.

3. How did you make your poems good?

When I am going over my first draft of a poem I try to add a lot of details and that is when I put the meaning in it. It is like I am trying to fill everything in to make it sound right. When I am doing this I have to repeatedly read it out loud to myself to figure out what word will fit best. I never feel hesitant to use a thesaurus because they can be extremely helpful and I depend on it a lot to find different words. My favorite sensory elements to use are sensory and sound because by using those words the sound effects of the poem come naturally to me and I think smell is an awkward sense.

4. Why did you write your poems?

I wrote my poems because I wanted to address what has been going on in the world and what has been making me happy lately. I just like to write about whatever comes to mind certain subjects over multiple poems don't really interest me. I really don't care about the meaning so much as what the poem sounds like and what its using to describe the object. It isn't always the meaning in the poem but what it says.

My 2 Poems

snowflakes in the sun-

wavering and struggling in the scalding heat of summer
no wet ground to stick for it is so dry in the summer
it is too late for the rain to fall if so it does the snow shall die.
the small and intricate patterns so bright in the light
ever so hopeful to find the night
soon the sun will pass,
they will be safe away from its natural way of harm
the shadows will heal them
reviving them to their original beauty
just to face another day.

elephant love-

two elephants stand in a quiet cold cage
alone, together, two feet of space from the spiring walls and themselves
ill intentioned visitors come and throw remarks at the elegant creatures
back to back to protect their lover and mate
together they are limitless staring down the rude intrusion into their cramped and cracking home
the ringmaster comes in and cracks the dry air breaking up the cheer and laughter
loud they roar trunks crashing and bashing the unwanted visitors
storming through the cage the ringmaster at bay in his little hiding hole
tearing through the zoo then into town tromping and stomping
spreading fear and panic.
the blue lights come racing down the town
and with a small blast of air their is pain and darkness lays its sheet upon the elephant’s love

The Who

The Who was a band started in London, England. The Who was known for its crazy, fun onstage performances of them doing insane rocker dares. They were one of England’s first great rock bands also leading into some pop and punk. The Who has sold around 100 million records and forty singles along with a large number of gold, platinum, and silver albums. The Who rose to fame in England then greatly influenced America and several other areas across the globe. They rose to fame through pirate radio stations such as Radio Caroline. The Who played from 1964-1996 and have made reunion appearances their largest and latest was at one of the recent super bowl half time shows.

The Who made it to the great rock and roll hall of fame and have been named one of the best rock and roll bands of its time. In 2006 the three remaining members of the band got together to make one last record but was abruptly ended by the death of Entwistle’s death and nothing has been done about the record since.

Africa Blog Reflection

  1. The geography has created many difficulties for Africa especially because of the intense heat. It has had many resources to make it a rich country in resources but others have taken advantage of their resources and the people of africa itself. The large dry desert has created separation in their country making it difficult to advance. The rivers have allowed the people of Africa to prosper in the dry desert. Because of the poor ground quality the people of africa based their lives on gathering and hunting the animals in the savannah. The larger families would be ones who lived in the wetter central part of africa who would either farm or herd. Because of the slight separation most villages if any at all would have elders to seek advice and a communal council to make decisions.

  1. Africa over the years has had many problems due to being a less advanced country in the world especially when fighting great Britain for freedom. Slavery was one of the main reasons Africa is so distraught because they tore themselves apart to make my by selling each other. Other countries have taken advantage of them to get the mineral rich earth that the africans live on. Slavery also created a world of danger and racism for the African people because they were looked down upon by other races. Really africa should be an overall rich country because of its ore and mineral based ground but they aren’t paid correctly and are stolen from. The lack of lush land has made them a very hungry nation mainly based on hunting to gather meat but it may not be the correct nutrition and is all based on luck. The relations of Africa with other countries was a lie affecting them because Europe was smart and would only sell the traders in Africa the lesser technology that even that was years past them. Today in their evolving country now that we all trade fairly Africa is rapidly developing and urbanization is happening leaving less workers to support the society but some are still clinging to what they have left of ancient religions

3. Africa’s greatest contribution to this world mentally has been a wide variety of music that continues to open up styles of music changing and altering branches of their culture. Lots of there arts were adopted and today some have chose to live a life loosely bound to what certain cultures believe in. Summer or warm weather plants have been discovered in Africa an they have taught the world how to use them  and what resources they can provide. Due to slavery the cultures of Africa have spread greatly into America and in Louisiana the culture of the creole has greatly influenced that area and it can still be found today. The math in Africa has always been very advanced and many scholars from other countries have gone their to learn what African mathematicians. In Egypt Pi was invented along with many other great egyptian successes. The ore rich earth that the Africans live on is full of gold and diamond and the gold funded the renaissance and created the gold and salt trade although slat was worth more then it was used as a from of payment. After having being taken over by the Europeans in the slave trade countries eventually gained their independence peacefully created a symbol that they will try to make peace with those who start with violence.

Europe Unit Reflection

I thought that the ways we learned helped me were lectures and taking notes out of books because I have the ability to write whatever I want. I also like the final project because it let me dive into a certain subject that I wanted to learn about and it let me take a lot from other peoples project so I could get their views about their certain chosen events. The outlines supplied by Ms. Pyeatt were very helpful because all that was needed was some added notes. The presentations she gave us also seemed extra because she would talk about things that weren't on the picture and would sometimes go off telling us about things that had been happening elsewhere expanding the picture and shared the actual presentations later with us so we could focus on the important things that would not be recorded. Because of this I improved my note taking in to an accessible easy format that I knew and would be easy to put back in to a project of my own if I needed to. I like the projects and quizzes because they make me study the data to also place in my head so it will stay a good long while. While the textbook is sometimes hard for me to get through it has proven well to work for me as a resource because I can slowly filter information to get the best out of the lengthy sections. I feel I learned better note and group skills over this section and had a good time through it.

D-day script

Scene I
Narrator- on june 6 1944 allied forces attacked upon the beaches on normandy this attack took several days to complete and many lives were lost. Pvt. Pierre- there are no survivors sir
Lt. louis- well the french commando’s have done it again. get some infantry to take guard on that pillbox and someone please get me the casualties i have got to report back to home
Pvt. Pierre- there have been about 13 casualties of our company but few wounded should we move on or wait for back up?
Lt. louis- we must move on, I got a radio signal that there are some british troops who want to rendezvous with us at pegasus bridge and are fighting a panzer division.
Pvt. Pierre- you heard the man lets move!

Scene III
Officer allard- the men have been putting up a good fight but I feel we’ve got ‘em
commander wilson- I don’t think that that is going to happen sir look out (tank fire)
TANKS!
Officer- who is that driving those tanks?
commander- they seem to be the 21 panzer division one of the most powerful. we just need to keep the men moving and avoid gunfire to confuse the tanks
Officer- are you sure we should stay or should we go. we’re getting torn up
Commander- lets see what we can do but nothing will happen to the tanks unless we can get an explosives team or grenadiers. so a retreat would seem in order
Officer- sir wee must retreat now all our men are dying should I send the order?
commander- yes let’s leave now and rescue the wounded if you can

Virtue discussion

Virtue is an important thing to have in life so someone can become good at something with the ability to look for more and be happy. Although Virtue can be found anywhere it seems to be indirectly stated in the Declaration of Independence as "The Pursuit of Happiness" to have the ability to do almost anything that abides the law to become a happier better person. Reading the book has slightly altered my thought about what virtue is but it has made me really think about how virtue works and why it is good to have and share with others.

Sam and Baylis's Guide to Reading Shakespeare

1. Perseverance-

When you read Romeo and Juliet the main thing that you should focus on is persevering throughout the book. If you persevere then you'll understand the book better and have more fun reading it, you'll also be able to understand more complicated books if you persevere through Shakespeare's writing because it will make it easier and more exciting.

2.Re-read-

A good thing to do while reading Shakespeare is to re-read complicated parts. By re-reading you will probably find more information that you didn't notice the first time you read it. Also, when you re-read you will understand the book much better overall.

3.Figure out Root Words-

If you don't know a big complicated word then it's a good idea to look up the prefixes, suffixes, and roots for that word to better understand it. Looking up words will add new meanings to sentences that you didn't know before because you didn't know what the key word meant.

4. Visualization-

Visualizing is an important part of any reading, but it's especially important in Shakespeare's plays because you will better enjoy the story if you can make a picture in your head of what's happening in the book. You can also imagine the setting and what the characters look like if you visualize the story; which, overall, will make the play seem more exciting.

5. Infer-

When you read Shakespeare it opens up the story if you infer a lot. By inferring you can find out things that Shakespeare his into the text such as humor, foreshadowing, and many hidden elements that would enhance your experience while reading Shakespeare's literature. If you combine this method with the other 4 you are sure to understand Shakespeare much better and have more fun reading the literature.

Skills For Success Reflection

1.Which of the five Skills for Success is your biggest strength? Why?
I think collaborating is my best skill out of the five because I like group projects and I feel like I get better grades on them. I don't do as well as I can if I am placed with someone who I don't communicate well with but I am being taught better collaboration skills and a little bit of leadership because I feel like I have to organize everything and in the end it is a good learning experience.

2.In which of the five Skills did you show the greatest improvement during 1st trimester?
I think I improved the most in persevering because I had some problems getting my work turned in on time and I was slacking off a lot and it wasn't good. It taught me to work harder and persevere through tough problems or assignments.

3.Which of the five Skills do you need/want to improve the most? Why?
I think I need to improve on communicating with others in projects more and sometimes teachers. I should have gone to a teacher when I as having trouble last trimester but now I feel fine and I am willing to talk to anyone if I am having trouble in any of my classes.

4.What specific actions will you take in order to improve?
I am going to work in a quieter area in my house and plan out my work and how I should carry out working on it. At school I am going to talk with others when I have a problem I need someone else to help me overcome.

5. What resource/assistance will you take advantage of in order to improve?
I am going to use the teachers help in school and try not to sit next to people that will distract me. At home I
take advantage of the quiet space so I can focus harder and have some free time afterwards to clear my mind.
